Remember the beautiful Letitia Wright who played Shuri in the popular Marvel Comics adaptation; Black Panther?
Well, the latest news is that she gave a powerful acceptance speech about Christ as she received the BAFTA “Rising Star” award on Sunday night in the United Kingdom.
And if you’re wondering what the BAFTA awards are and why it is such a big deal, well, the BAFTA awards (British Academy Film Awards) honors the best British and International contributions to film.
Letitia who was born in Guyana and relocated to the United Kingdom at age 6, began her professional career in 2011 and ever since then she has played several roles in British TV series.
She received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress’ in a Limited Series or Movie and was named among the 2015 group of BAFTA Breakthrough Brits for her role in the award-winning film Urban Hymn.
By now I guess you may have figured out that It’s no brainer that Letitia Wright happens to be in the Bafta 2019 honorees list. The talented actress has steadily proven that anything is possible if you can only believe it and trust God.
According to news.com, as she mounted unto the stage, Letitia was quick to announce her strong faith in God, announcing to the world that God is the source of her success.
Interestingly this won’t be the first time she would make such declarations. During her speech, she was said to have also given the glory back to God for bringing her out during a time of depression.
“I identify myself as a child of God and I can’t get up here without thanking God, a few years ago I saw myself in a deep state of depression and I literally wanted to quit acting,
The only thing that pulled me out of it was God, my belief, my faith and my family, and an email from Bafta asking me to become part of the Bafta breakthrough Brits.”
I was like: ‘Let me try again,”
Letitia Wright has now become a household name and an actor to reckon with. Asides being an amazing actor, her light seems to shine everywhere she steps into and with everyone she works with. According to director Michael Caton-Jones;
“She is the most exciting young screen acting talent that I’ve had the pleasure of working with since Leonardo DiCaprio on This Boy’s Life”.
During her acceptance speech she also revealed that her rise to stardom didn’t happen overnight, she openly admitted to the fact that she is still a work in progress.
I want to thank everybody who said yes to me, that gave me a chance, and just saw my talent and saw what God placed in me, and said ‘yes.
She went on to encourage other young folks going through hard times, informing them that God loves them.
“I want to encourage young people. You don’t have to be young, you can be any age, but I want to encourage you – anyone going through a hard time
God made you and you’re important, there might be some of you here who might be going through a hard time.
I just want to encourage you that God loves you. Just let your light shine”
One would think that Letitia has been Christian for quite some time due to her boldness and revelations concerning her faith but in an interview with W Magazine, she confessed to being a baby Christian and a church attendee of only three years.
But it is glaring that Letitia is a true lover of Christ who is never ashamed to express her love for God.
At every opportunity she gets, she never shies away from encouraging folks with God’s word.
“Worrying will kill you, man, It will…Eat. You. Up. But in the Bible, Jesus is basically like, ‘Chill out, guys.’ If you gracefully trust that everything is going to be okay, you start to feel lighter. You’ve just got to let go and let God.
I’m still considered a baby Christian, I have to learn my Word.”
Letitia Wright reminds me of the one and only Apostle Paul who after his encounter with Christ became a radical lover of Christ and had inside of him a great level of boldness that stood out amongst the apostles.
Letitia Wright is one actor to look out for in 2019!!!
She’s bound to shine the Light of Christ all over the world!!!
