Due to the nature of what I do as a writer, I have to stay up to date on trending news, songs, videos and all.
In April 2014, popular music artiste Beyonce Knowles was nominated by Time Magazine as the Top 100 most influential woman in the world. To mark this occasion, Beyonce decided to release the video of her song “Pretty Hurts”.
As I watched the video, I could definitely see ungodly gestures and revealing outfits but looking beyond that, here’s what I picked. (Please note that God expects us to see how He sees not with mere eyes nor as the world sees.
(2 Kings 6:17) Some are purposefully gifted to see beyond ungodly circumstances and acts in order to unveil the truth that the world may see as God sees and run to Him.
In the video, Beyonce illustrates how she was taught that what you have in your head doesn’t count, but all that matters is your looks, makeup, outfit and physique.
Now contesting for a beauty pageant, she put everything she had been taught to practice. Her hair, makeup, bums, tummy, she even went through surgery and a couple of painful injections to have “The Perfect Look”. In the end, she lost the top position when she failed to give a brilliant answer to the question, “What do you want to be in future?”
Although she gave a sincere answer which was “To Be Happy” (it wasn’t a brilliant one). After all she had been through, all she really craved for was to be happy, but as far as the contest was concerned, her answer was improper.
After sacrificing her liberty, on what to eat and what not to do, the pains from injections and surgery, the shouts from her coach on how she just wasn’t good enough and the envy from friends just to win this pageant.
She realised she had lost her joy, trying to impress others and trying to fit into the worlds ideal woman. She concludes that where the surgery is really needed is in the soul.
The surgeries and different endeavours to impress the world can’t take us far. Only God can give us the ‘all in one surgery’. This surgery is called ‘The Soul Surgery”.
God created us in the first place so he knows what’s best for us. Our body matters a lot to God but what matters most is our inner self; our soul.
We need to quit the surgery and alterations done just to change the way God created us. Some things only bring temporal happiness but not lasting satisfaction.
Keeping up with the trend of make-over confidence, pink lips, bleaching, plastic surgeries, enlargements, Aristo, yahoo plus, fraud, Sugar mama and more, never truly gives happiness. In fact maintaining it leads to different sad occurrences.
