The first locally made Nigerian drone was constructed by a 17 year old boy named David Opateyibo. David is currently heading the development of a drone which is a high breed mix of existing drone components and locally fabricated materials.
In an interview, David mentioned that these drones can also be used for aerial photography and videography, or for broadcasting, incidence control or pipeline and power line inspection and in agriculture, to analyse farm produce. This prototype can fly for about fifteen minutes.
It was gathered that the first prototype of a locally-made drone was recently constructed at the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH). The lagos state authorities say that this prototype can fly for about fifteen minutes and can be used for security surveillance if developed effectively.
