Gospel music as a business is shrinking, popular award-winning artiste and producer, Fred Hammond has said.
His statement as contained in a series of tweets, was in reaction to Black Entertainment Television’s announcement on Thursday that it was canceling its Celebration of Gospel programme.
Fred Hammond further stated that according to his theories, advertisers can’t count on Gospel music listeners/supporters to buy their products.
“When consumers buy the product, advertisers buy more time on that station or network. When they don’t see a return, they don’t buy. Simple” Fred Hammond said.

BET did not give any reason for canceling the show. Elev8.com reports that more than 2.6 million total viewers tuned in to BET’s annual special “celebration of Gospel” when it premiered in April 6, making it the number one gospel/religious telecast on TV.
