As the world marks the International White Cane Day, the Nikki Laoye’s Angel for Life Foundation and Nigeria Association Of The Blind (Lagos State Chapter) is set to host an awareness campaign on Monday, October 15 themed “Our Mark Of Independence” with the aim of celebrating the independence of the blind and visually impaired in the society. Several celebrities including Sammie Okposo, Funke Kuti, Weird MC, Nikki Laoye, Yaw (Wazobia FM), Nedu, Vixen, Sabina (Naija FM), Ashionye and many more are expected to participate in the “walk for the blind and by the blind”.
The walk is scheduled to kick off at 10am at The Palms Shopping Centre in Lekki, Lagos with a dress code of white top on blue jeans. Cars can be parked at Kings College annex grounds between 8 and 9am strictly and shuttle buses will convey participants to the Palms.
International White Cane Day promotes the white cane as a positive means of independence and mobility for people who are blind or have low vision. It raises awareness of the access needs of people who are blind or have low vision.
On Saturday, October 13, Nikki Laoye’s Angel For Life Foundation held a fundraising music event “Sing 4 The Blind” at The Palms’ Shopping Mall, Lekki where a wide variety of artistes showed up to show love to the blind.
