Freeborn is the fastest rising contemporary African Multi-rhythm gospel sensation. Made up of four young, energetic, creative and multitalented men, freeborn has been delivering high energy stagecraft over the past Ten years internationally working together with the best in the industry.
Freeborn is a Nigerian contemporary African Multi-Rhythm group formed in May 2004, in the Metropolitan Neighbourhood of Ebute-Metta Lagos. The group is composed of Tosin TK Kinyomi (singer songwriter & Producer), Ladi Wilkey (Singer Songwriter, and lead vocalist) Segun cooper (Singer songwriter), and Biodun cooper.
The group went through a number of re-configurations between 2004 and 2007, achieving their current form with the success of their first single “fujitive” produced by Cobhams Asuquo reaching national acclaim leading to the release of the debut album “the first chapter”.
Since the release of the debut album in April 2008, Freeborn has become known for its musicianship, complex compositions, and eclectic lyrical motifs drawing heavily on social character, fiction, fantasy, and philosophy, as well as addressing humanitarian, social, emotional, and environmental concerns.
Freeborn’s music style has remained consistent over the years, beginning with blues-inspired Afro R’n’B, Afro- pop, Afro Reggae on their first album, then encompassing rock, rap and a period with use of African folk fusion. This condensation of musical chemistry is dubbed “Kontemporary African Multi-Rhythms”. (KAMR)- pronounced Kama.
Freeborn has a great number of fans across youth and elderly divides and enjoys wide acceptance in University campuses, clubs, hangouts and other music powered venues. Over our career years, Freeborn has been acknowledged as having highly proficient stagemanship on demand, with each band member winning numerous nicknames in fans polls leading to the coinage ‘spontaneous, crazy, simple, witty out of the box music.’
