As Nathaniel Bassey celebrates his birthday today, the Nigerian multi talented gospel artiste has chosen to share some profound thoughts about the essence of standing for Jesus. He also gives advice to his fellow music ministers.
Few years ago, when I sensed the call of God on my life, it required giving up every secular musical commitment to minister exclusively before the Lord. It was one of the toughest decisions of my life. But by his grace I was able to give them up.
My friends and family members thought I’d lost my mind. There was also an article in the Guardian Newspaper saying I had decided to ‘waste away in a local church’ instead of inspiring my generation.
But on a day like this, when I remember and celebrate my birthday, with all the kind words and testimonies of impact by our little effort through grace, I can’t help but declare God’s faithfulness to the heavens. And also encourage someone out there who may be in a similar situation I was years ago. I say, STAND FOR JESUS! Men would laugh at you, some will despise you, but as long as you have God’s presence, your future is alright.
To my fellow music ministers, I say stand for JESUS. I can assure you, there is nothing in the secular world. It’s all a mirage. I played for a lot of the top top guys, I can tell you, all you get is Emptiness! Emptiness! Emptiness!
Don’t sell your soul for some finite and transient fame, glamour & cash. True success is only achieved in Christ. You don’t have to MIX IT to MAKE IT. You can make it in life singing for JESUS alone.
I pray today, that the GOD I serve, Jesus Christ, will never leave you nor forsake you. And that you shall know his presence and abide there in, all your days. God bless you!
