@walPastor Wale Adenuga has taken to his instagram to write an open letter to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in the midst of public outcry for an end to police killings and brutality, and a call for better governance
Dear Mr. President,
I hope this meets you well Sir.
I wanted to say that this time and season is offering you an opportunity of a life time. An opportunity to etch your name in gold and be remembered for good, for ever.
How so? You’re a retired distinguished soldier. That means you’ve rehearsed and activated the discharge of courage and boldness countless times. Now is the time to stand up, pick up courage and face the young people of this nation. Remember, you said you belong to everyone. They are the majority of the everyone you said. And then one more thing you need to say: WE ARE SORRY.
Now I know it’s difficult for people in your generation to say that. I know because my dad is marginally older than you. And sometimes, instead of saying sorry, he tries to pacify. That’s not going to ‘werk’ (sorry Work) sir. It’s why the Vice President’s apology doesn’t cut it. It has to come from you. Not a tweet. Not words from Messers Adesina and Garba. But from you directly.
This moment offers you the opportunity to damn the consequences and set the course of Nigeria on the path of greatness in several areas; police, education, health etc. You’re assured of the support of a true majority, not a schemed one.
I know counsel is not in short supply in the Villa. But here’s the thing; we didn’t elect advisers. And when it’s all said and done, it’s your name that will be remembered.
7pm, Sunday 18th October, 2020 is a good opportunity to address the nation. The word around town is that you won’t do it. Sir, you can shame these people. And in this age, you have to get used to doing things you’re not used to doing.
See you on TV or YouTube. Hopefully.
Your fellow citizen,
Wale Adenug
