One of the best Spoken word concerts in Africa took place on Saturday, 11th June, 2016 and lovers of poetry within Lagos, outside Lagos and other parts of Africa gathered at The Dome, Lekki, Lagos Nigeria for the 2nd Edition of Rhyme and Reason “The Excision“.
The event was full to capacity as more people streamed in through the gates to see four of the best international Spoken word artistes; Jackie Hill-Perry, Preston Perry, Ezekiel Azonwu and Janette…ikz.
Members of the audience were in awe at how much Ezekiel was able to get into the devil character while performing ‘The Letter”. Ezekiel and Janette…ikz pulled off a grand show in “Ready or Not”, and Janette.
ikz got into her role by wearing a wedding dress. The crowd went wild when Preston and Jackie Hill-Perry performed “The Fall” and they didn’t stop screaming for more than five minutes! Preston’s “Jesus is God; and I dare you to tell me otherwise” line was repeated by the awed crowd long after the event was over.
Our very own home-grown Nigerian artistes also owned and rocked the stage, with Gaise, Plumbline, Atilola, DJ Mordu, OR.RAW.DAY and Ibk Spaceship Boi giving amazing performances.
One moment to remember for a long time was when Ezekiel led a typical Nigerian worship session in which he literally stole the heart of his fellow Nigerians.
