Even though he didn’t grace the stage as a performer, Franklin had one of the more poignant moments on stage with his acceptance speech for the Best Gospel/Inspirational Award.
The celebrated gospel king proved you don’t have to be in a pulpit to deliver the truth, as he graciously thanked his family, fans and loved ones for the support.
The renowned gospel singer also didn’t miss an opportunity to slip in some motivational words in his closing remarks for anyone tuning in to the annual awards show, whether they were in the audience or at home.
As his acceptance speech wound down, the Love Theory artist hearkened back to his younger days and the lack of sustenance he got from microwavable dinners as opposed to the home-grown, satisfying handmade dinners from his grandmother.
“The reason why grandmama’s cooking was so good is because she didn’t cook Sunday dinner Sunday evening.
She started it on Saturday night and she let it marinate overnight. That’s why it’s so good,” the gospel icon said.
He continued, “The reason your gift is not like these other gifts that’s so microwavable is because God put something in you that is too great.
You got to know that what’s inside of you is so great is taking a little longer because God did not call you to be microwavable.
“He wants you to know that what’s inside you is like grandmomma’s greens. So don’t give up. Your time is coming,” Franklin finished to rapturous applause.
His inspiring words had souls soaring across social media as his awe-inspiring words spoke to those still waiting on their blessing.
“Kirk Franklin with the message on the soul train awards…touched my soul,” one viewer commented on Twitter.
“Kirk Franklin speaking truth tell it to the ones in the back pastor. Realist thing I heard all day,” another tweeted.
Can we get an amen?! A big congratulations to Kirk Franklin!
