Nikki Laoye celebrates Sokleva Hughes (one half of the legendary rap duo, Rooftop Mcs) as he marks another year today, by sharing the “Taka Sufe” official video – one of their major collaborations that helped set her feet in stone in the Nigerian Music Industry.
The song that captivated many and premiered as one of the first Nigerian videos aired on popular American Broadcasting network, BET, at its release in 2009.
Taka Sufe (Remix) is the second video off Nigerian recording artist, Nikki Laoye’s debut album, Angel 4 Life. Featuring Rooftop Mcs and her older brother, Rap2Sai, Taka Sufe was produced by her renowned producer and younger brother, Xblaze – his first production effort on Nikki’s album.
A massive hit through the years and now in 2014, the song still remains in rotation; creating a huge frenzy at the first snap of the hit track.
The video was shot and directed by ace director, Frizzle & Bizzle Films at UNILAG Sports Complex, Lagos and was one of the first videos shot on the high-tech RED camera in Nigeria at that time. Due to its first of a kind quality, the director, TFrizzle won “Best New Director” for Taka Sufe at the 2010 Nigerian Music Video Awards.
Cameo appearances in the video include Nikki’s Mum (Mrs Laoye), Tosyn Bucknor, OC Ukeje, Uche Nnaji (OUCH), Lara George, Lala Akindoju, Reverend Jackson (HOTR,Lagos), Eric Arubayi, Annette Cookey, Base One, Xblaze, Sons of Liberty, Nutty Josh, Ojizzy, Jasper Kanayo, Presh P and many more.
Certainly a classic for the ages with a lot of firsts, Taka Sufe (Remix) by Nikki Laoye, Rooftop Mcs & Rap2Sai stands firm in its place as one of the trendsetting sounds of the Nigerian music industry
